Introduction

The Decor Mix (“The Decor Mix,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the website located at thedecormix.com (the “Site”). The Decor Mix is an editorial home décor and interior design publication that provides decorating inspiration, design tips, product recommendations, product roundups, buying guides, and furniture, lighting, and home accessories suggestions for renters and homeowners. We participate in affiliate marketing programs and may earn commissions when you click affiliate links or make purchases through them.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you visit or interact with the Site, how we use and share that information, and the choices and rights you have regarding your personal information. We are committed to handling your information transparently and responsibly.

By using the Site, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with our practices, please do not use the Site.

This Privacy Policy works alongside our separate Affiliate Disclosure and Terms of Service. Where those documents address specific topics in more detail, they should be read together with this policy.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information in three general ways:

  • Information you voluntarily provide to us, such as when you subscribe to our newsletter or contact us.
  • Information collected automatically when you visit the Site, such as device and usage data.
  • Information from third parties, such as analytics providers, advertising partners, and affiliate networks.

We do not knowingly collect more information than we need to operate the Site, communicate with you, understand how the Site is used, and support our affiliate and advertising relationships.

2. Information You Voluntarily Provide

You may choose to provide us with personal information directly, including when you:

  • Subscribe to our email newsletter. We collect your email address and, in some cases, your first name or other details you choose to share.
  • Contact us by email or through a contact form. We collect your name, email address, and the contents of your message.
  • Comment or otherwise interact with features that allow user submissions, where available. We collect the information you submit, which may include your name, email address, and any content you post.

You are not required to provide this information to browse the Site, but some features (such as receiving our newsletter) are not available without it.

3. Information Automatically Collected

When you visit the Site, certain information is collected automatically through cookies, server logs, and similar technologies, including:

  • Device and browser information, such as your browser type, operating system, device type, and screen resolution.
  • Usage information, such as the pages you view, the links you click, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on pages, and the website or source that referred you to us.
  • Approximate location information, derived from your IP address (such as your general region or city), but not your precise GPS location.
  • Network information, such as your Internet Protocol (IP) address and general connection details.

This information helps us operate, secure, analyze, and improve the Site.

4. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies (such as web beacons, pixels, and local storage) to operate the Site, remember your preferences, understand how the Site is used, and support advertising and affiliate measurement.

What cookies are. A cookie is a small text file placed on your device by a website. Cookies allow the Site to recognize your device and store certain information about your preferences or past actions.

Types of cookies we use:

  • Essential cookies, which are necessary for the Site to function properly and cannot be switched off in our systems.
  • Preference cookies, which remember choices you make to improve your experience.
  • Analytics cookies, which help us understand how visitors use the Site so we can improve it.
  • Advertising and affiliate cookies, which may be set by our advertising partners and affiliate networks to measure clicks, attribute purchases, and deliver relevant ads.

Your choices. Most web browsers allow you to refuse or delete cookies through their settings. If you disable certain cookies, some parts of the Site may not function as intended. Where required by law, we request your consent before placing non-essential cookies, and you may withdraw that consent at any time through our cookie banner or settings.

5. Analytics Services

We use third-party analytics services to help us understand how visitors interact with the Site. These services collect information such as the pages you visit, how long you stay, how you arrived at the Site, and general information about your device and location.

Analytics providers may use cookies and similar technologies and may process this information on our behalf. The information is generally aggregated or pseudonymized and is used to measure and improve the performance and content of the Site.

For example, we may use services such as Google Analytics. You can learn more about how Google collects and processes data at policies.google.com/technologies/partners, and you can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

The Decor Mix is supported by affiliate marketing. This means the Site contains affiliate links to products and retailers, and we may earn a commission when you click those links or make a qualifying purchase, at no additional cost to you.

We participate in affiliate programs and networks, which may include the Amazon Associates Program, Wayfair, and other affiliate networks and individual retailer programs.

When you click an affiliate link, the retailer or affiliate network may place cookies on your device and collect information about your click and any resulting purchase in order to attribute the sale and pay the appropriate commission. This information is collected and used according to the privacy policies of those third parties, not by us. We typically receive only aggregated or anonymized reporting, such as the number of clicks and completed purchases, and we do not receive your payment card details or the full details of your purchases.

As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases. For more detail on our affiliate relationships, please see our separate Affiliate Disclosure.

7. Advertising Partners and Third-Party Advertising

We may display advertising on the Site, including banner ads, display ads, sponsored content, and promotional partnerships. Some of this advertising may be served by third-party advertising partners and ad networks.

These third-party advertising partners may use cookies, web beacons, and similar technologies to collect information about your visits to this and other websites in order to provide advertisements about goods and services that may interest you. This practice is commonly known as interest-based or behavioral advertising.

We do not control the cookies or tracking technologies used by third-party advertisers, and their use of your information is governed by their own privacy policies. Sponsored content and promotional partnerships are disclosed in accordance with applicable advertising and consumer-protection rules, including U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) guidelines.

Your advertising choices. You can learn about and opt out of interest-based advertising from participating companies through industry resources such as:

  • The Digital Advertising Alliance at optout.aboutads.info
  • The Network Advertising Initiative at optout.networkadvertising.org
  • The European Interactive Digital Advertising Alliance at youronlinechoices.eu

Opting out does not mean you will stop seeing ads; it means the ads you see may be less tailored to you.

8. Email Newsletters and Marketing Communications

If you subscribe to our newsletter or otherwise opt in to receive communications from us, we use your email address to send you content such as decorating ideas, product recommendations, buying guides, updates, and promotional messages.

We use a third-party email service provider to manage our mailing list and deliver these communications. That provider processes your information on our behalf and may collect basic engagement data, such as whether an email was opened or a link was clicked, to help us measure and improve our communications.

Your choices. Every marketing email we send includes an unsubscribe link. You may opt out of marketing emails at any time by clicking that link or by contacting us at the email address in the “Contact Information” section. We will honor your request promptly. Even if you opt out of marketing emails, we may still send you non-promotional messages where necessary, such as responses to your direct inquiries.

We do not sell your email address, and we send marketing communications only to people who have opted in or as otherwise permitted by applicable law.

9. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Site and its content.
  • To deliver the content, features, and recommendations you request.
  • To send newsletters and marketing communications you have subscribed to.
  • To respond to your inquiries, comments, and requests.
  • To understand how visitors use the Site through analytics.
  • To support and measure our affiliate relationships and advertising.
  • To personalize content and, where applicable, advertising.
  • To detect, prevent, and address technical issues, fraud, abuse, and security incidents.
  • To comply with our legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.

We do not sell your personal information for money. Please see the California and EEA/UK sections below regarding how certain data-sharing practices (such as the use of advertising cookies) may be treated under those laws.

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom (UK), or another jurisdiction that requires a legal basis for processing personal data, we rely on the following legal bases:

  • Consent, for example when you subscribe to our newsletter or when we place non-essential cookies. You may withdraw consent at any time.
  • Legitimate interests, such as operating, securing, analyzing, and improving the Site and understanding how it is used, where those interests are not overridden by your rights and freedoms.
  • Performance of a contract, such as providing a service you have requested.
  • Legal obligation, where processing is necessary to comply with applicable law.

Where we rely on consent, you have the right to withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.

11. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information for money. We may share information in the following circumstances:

  • With service providers who perform services on our behalf, such as website hosting, email delivery, and analytics. These providers are permitted to use your information only to provide services to us.
  • With advertising partners and affiliate networks, which may receive information through cookies and tracking technologies as described above.
  • For legal and safety reasons, when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to comply with applicable law, legal process, or a governmental request; to enforce our Terms of Service; or to protect the rights, property, or safety of The Decor Mix, our users, or others.
  • In connection with a business transaction, such as a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, in which case information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Privacy Policy.

The Site contains links to third-party websites, including retailers, affiliate partners, advertisers, and other resources. These links are provided for your convenience and to support our content.

When you click a link to a third-party website, you leave the Site, and we are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those websites. The information you provide to, and the activity you engage in on, third-party websites is governed by their own privacy policies. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any website you visit.

13. Data Retention

We retain personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law.

  • Newsletter and marketing data is retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion, after which we may retain limited records as needed to honor your opt-out.
  • Inquiry and contact data is retained for as long as needed to respond to and document your request.
  • Analytics and log data is retained for a limited period consistent with the settings of our analytics providers and our operational needs.

When information is no longer needed, we take reasonable steps to delete, anonymize, or securely store it.

14. Data Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect the information we collect against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, and alteration. These measures include secure hosting, encryption in transit where appropriate, and access controls.

However, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security. You are responsible for keeping any account or subscription credentials confidential.

15. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information, which may include:

  • The right to access the personal information we hold about you.
  • The right to correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
  • The right to delete your personal information.
  • The right to opt out of marketing communications.
  • The right to opt out of certain data sharing or targeted advertising.
  • The right to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
  • The right to data portability, where applicable.
  • The right to not be discriminated against for exercising your rights.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the details in the “Contact Information” section. We may need to verify your identity before responding to your request, and we will respond within the time required by applicable law. You may also use an authorized agent to submit a request where the law permits.

16. California Privacy Rights (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (collectively, the “CCPA/CPRA”), provides you with specific rights regarding your personal information.

Your California rights include:

  • The right to know what personal information we collect, use, disclose, and share, including the categories of information and the categories of sources and recipients.
  • The right to delete personal information we have collected from you, subject to certain exceptions.
  • The right to correct inaccurate personal information.
  • The right to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information. While we do not sell personal information for money, certain uses of advertising and analytics cookies may be considered “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising under California law. You may opt out by adjusting your cookie settings, using the opt-out tools listed in the “Advertising Partners” section, or contacting us.
  • The right to limit the use of sensitive personal information, to the extent we process such information.
  • The right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights.

Categories of personal information. In the past 12 months, we may have collected the following categories of personal information: identifiers (such as email address and IP address), internet or other electronic network activity information (such as browsing and usage data), geolocation data (approximate, derived from IP address), and commercial information related to affiliate activity (such as aggregated click and purchase data).

How to exercise your rights. California residents may submit requests using the contact details in the “Contact Information” section. We will verify your request as required and respond within the timeframes set by the CCPA/CPRA. You may designate an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf.

Where required by applicable law and technically supported, we will seek to recognize opt-out preference signals, such as the Global Privacy Control (GPC).

17. European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom (UK), and GDPR Rights

If you are located in the EEA or the UK, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the UK GDPR provide you with the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • The right to access your personal data.
  • The right to rectification of inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • The right to erasure (“right to be forgotten”).
  • The right to restrict processing in certain circumstances.
  • The right to data portability.
  • The right to object to processing based on legitimate interests or for direct marketing.
  • The right to withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent.
  • The right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

We process your personal data in accordance with the legal bases described in the “Legal Bases for Processing” section. To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the details in the “Contact Information” section. We will respond within the timeframes required by the GDPR and UK GDPR.

If you are in the UK or EEA and wish to make a complaint, you may contact your national data protection authority. In the UK, this is the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

18. Do Not Track Signals

Some web browsers offer a “Do Not Track” (“DNT”) setting that signals websites you visit that you do not want your online activity tracked. There is currently no consistent industry standard for recognizing or responding to DNT signals, and we do not respond to DNT signals at this time.

Where required by applicable law and technically supported, we will seek to recognize opt-out preference signals, such as the Global Privacy Control (GPC), as described in the California section above. You can also manage tracking through the cookie and advertising choices described in this Privacy Policy.

19. Children’s Privacy

The Site is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us using the details in the “Contact Information” section, and we will take reasonable steps to delete that information. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without proper authorization, we will delete it.

If a higher age threshold applies under the laws of your jurisdiction (for example, the age of digital consent in certain countries), we will seek to comply with that requirement as applicable.

20. International Data Transfers

The Decor Mix is operated from the United States, and the information we collect is processed and stored in the United States and in other countries where we or our service providers operate.

If you access the Site from outside the United States, please be aware that your information may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in a country whose data protection laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction. Where required by law, we take appropriate safeguards to ensure that international transfers of personal data are protected, such as relying on standard contractual clauses or other lawful transfer mechanisms.

By using the Site, you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States and other countries as described above.

21. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or other factors. When we make changes, we will revise the “Last Updated” date at the top of this policy.

If we make material changes, we will provide a more prominent notice where appropriate, such as a notice on the Site or, where required, by email. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically to stay informed about how we protect your information. Your continued use of the Site after any changes take effect constitutes your acknowledgment of the updated policy.
